Photography is a much older art than one may think. Its root words are the Greek words for light and writing. There are two specific processes that must be put together to make photography possible. These methods had been around for quite some time before they were actually put together, thus creating the new age of photography.

Illlustrated History of Photography

The earliest photographs, which took at least eight hours to expose, were created on materials that hardened using light exposure. Soon after this, a method was discovered that using salt could permanently imprint images on plates. The French government bought rights to a machine that would allow this process to be made public. The first photographic device was called the Daguerreotype after its inventor Louis Daguerre.
